ABOUT ABOUT

Mohican Community Theatre is proud to present the musical comedy

"Nunsense"

After a long hiatus due to COVID, Mohican Community Theatre is back! MCT, which functions under the Loudonville Theatre and Arts Committee (LTAC), will perform Nunsense for six performances at the Ohio Theatre in downtown Loudonville.

Sally Hollenbach, who directed MCT’s last production You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in February 2020, right before quarantine shut the theatre down will be directing and acting. Deaunna Morgan, who usually MCT’s resident Costume Director, is stepping into the Co-Director position for the second time. Rachel Kelly, who is the choir director at the junior high and high school, is the Music Director; and Amy Loveday, who last played the role of Lucy in Charlie Brown, will be Costume Director.

A cast of 6 will perform the 1985 musical comedy written and scored by Dan Goggin. Originating as a line of greeting cards, Goggin expanded the concept into a cabaret show and eventually into a full-length musical. The show has been adapted into a popular television movie with six sequels and three spin-offs, which starred Rue McClanahan from Golden Girls.

The musical is set up as a variety show put on by 5 of 19 surviving nuns from Little Sisters of Hoboken, a one-time missionary order that ran a leper colony on an island south of France. After their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, accidentally killed the other 52 residents of the convent with her tainted vichyssoise while they were off playing bingo, the nuns are left trying to raise money for the last four burials of their departed sisters.

Participating in the variety show are Mother Superior, a former circus performer who cannot resist the spotlight, played by Renata Lunt; her second-in-command Sister Mary Hubert, played by Traci Cooper; Sister Robert Anne, a streetwise nun from Brooklyn, played by Rachel Kelly; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is determined to be the world’s first ballerina nun, played by Abby Helbing; Sister Mary Amnesia, who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head, played by Sally Hollenbach; and a Stage Manager Nun, Sister Mary Clarence, played by Laurie Bowers.
